About Jon

"Schematische Hemelglobe," Koenraad Kuiper, 1910

I am a researcher and practitioner of traditional astrology specializing in technological development patterns and historical synthesis.

Background

Along with completing my degree in anthropology from University of California, Santa Cruz, I have been a student of traditional astrological practice for eight years, working widely with techniques from the Hellenistic, Medieval Arabic, and Renaissance traditions. My methods draw from the comprehensive systems of Vettius Valens and Dorotheus of Sidon, the siege-craft flexibility of Guido Bonatti and Al-Biruni, the everyday accuracy of William Lilly, and the anonymous compilers of millennium-old texts like Picatrix, whose perennial coherence is a beacon as much today as during the rise of the Renaissance.

Beyond this passion, I am a voracious reader of world literature, poetry, and history. This breadth of study informs the cultural and historical depth of my research.

Current Research

My work focuses on understanding when and how historical inflection points occur—technological breakthroughs, institutional foundings, political upheaval, market shifts—through rigorous temporal pattern analysis.

Active Research Areas

  • Technological Development: Material science (concrete, steel, plastics, computing), energy systems, and their adoption patterns
  • Institutional Timing: Corporate founding charts, longevity indicators, and transition patterns
  • Mundane Astrology: Political cycles, civil unrest patterns, and national transits
  • Electional Astrology: Strategic timing for launches, agreements, and major decisions

I maintain unique comprehensive datasets linking astrological conditions to technological development and institutional success across modern history, spanning thousands of charts from the 19th-21st centuries.

Philosophy

Astrology is not mysticism or esoteric soothsaying — it is a sophisticated pattern recognition system developed over millennia by civilizations observing the correlations within celestial-terrestrial events and their impacts.

My approach treats astrology as:

  1. Historical scholarship: Documenting what happened when
  2. Pattern analysis: Identifying recurring signatures across contexts
  3. Strategic intelligence: Applying these patterns to present decisions

I am interested in what works, what is documented, and what can be tested against historical record. This is astrology as temporal analysis, not spiritual practice.

Publications & Community

I publish quarterly research monographs on historical-astrological synthesis, available through my Publications page. Topics include military history, institutional founding patterns, as well as technological innovation and the development of culture and industry through the inventions of humankind.

I also write Barbaric Spheres, a monthly newsletter of temporal intelligence and pattern analysis to influence decision making.
